Biography[Edit][]
Meijer was born in the South of Rotterdam and four years later she moved to IJsselmonde. Macdonald is the child already on (first still with her brother) in vocals and begins in the seventies as a much sought-after backing vocalist, a.o. for Patricia Paay. The breakthrough as a solo artist is in 1976 with "The Alternative Way", a collaboration with Hans Vermeulen. This number is a number 1-hit in Netherlands, and also her next singles sell well.
After several successful singles seems the success of "The Alternative Way" not matched, but after a change of record label in 1980 , she is accompanied by a new musicians and production team. The album "Shades of Desire" follows whose single Why Tell Me Why weeks long occupied the first position in the Dutch charts and even the best-selling single will be by 1981. It is the beginning of a period in which Anita Meyer scores, including many hits "They Don't Play Our Love Song Anymore", "Blame It On Love" and a cover of The one that you love of the Australian duo Air Supply. The Swedish Carola and the French Julie Pietri throw high eyes in their own country with a version of "Why Tell Me Why".
She is performing for the first time In 1983 with Lee Towers. The emphasis begins more on albums and performances and the success of the singles is more modest. With a music video for "Heart of Stone" she has the scoop for a Dutch singer. In 1986 throws a recorded live duet with Lee Towers, a cover of Run To Me, high in the charts. It will Meyers last Dutch top 10-hit, but her name as one of Holland's most successful singers is finally established, in particular thanks to good selling albums and successful performances. First Dutch singer brings them inspired by Lee Towers a series of successful shows in the Rotterdam Ahoy ', something in that time only a few artists in Netherlands was awarded. "Freedom (For All)" and "Music Music" do it well in the charts in the late 1980s.
Meyer decides to go from 1992 to do to be able to spend more time to her family. Her divorce is widely reported in the tabloid press. The title song of the RTL 4 program "I'm sorry" puts her in the charts again in 1994. In 1998 makes them inspired by the success of fellow artists a temporary switch to Dutch-speaking with the album "closer together". In 2000 is a guest on the last "Gala of the Year" by Lee Towers in Ahoy and she takes the latin-inspired Spanish Guitar on album with predominantly covers. In the Tros TV show is there attention to its 25-year anniversary. The attention for her latest albums is limited, but she remains a much sought-after singer in the schnabbel circuit.
In 2005 she serves as team captain in the feeling ofthe music program, and in the following year, she participated in the Stage Entertainment-production Musicals in Ahoy. In 2006, she took on the role of the old glamour cat Grizabella in the musical Cats .
In 2008 a number of guest appearances with Meyer and Towers provide the Airforce Orchestra concerts in the context of the series of Hollywood in concert. In the same year she is three evenings in the Amsterdam ArenA during Toppers In Concert 2008 .
In 2011 works Meyer participated in the tv program the best singers of Netherlands, in which she performed several songs by other singers. Following the example of her number-one hit from 1981, Why tell me why, again in the charts with DJ Romeo.
There also appears a remix of the same song by DJ Frank, Discotex called.
Autumn 2011 is the program I'm sorry back on RTL 4, presented by John Williams. Anita has for this series a new version of the well-known tune Sung. This to the delight of tv lovers, who previously were disappointed that Talpa for a new tune for coffee time had chosen.
