Biography[]

Blue Note was founded in 1939 and became one of the biggest names in Jazz. Their early records were most known for the Hard Bop and Bebop styles, though later they grew to embrace Free Jazz as well. In 1979, Blue Note was phased out by its purchaser, EMI, until 1985, when it became part of the EMI Manhattan label, though by the 1990s it had become a known force in Jazz again and continues to put out well-received both commercially and critically, albums, both new and reissue.
