Signal Productions was created by Greg McWhorter as a means by which to communicate with other area punk rockers and as a vehicle by which to throw shows and put out a fanzine, Disturbed Minds. Signal Productions had started a cassette-tape only label in 1983 called C.U.R.S.E. (Casual Utterances by Really Spiteful Extremists) Tapes which was modeled after BCT (Bad Compilation Tapes -San Diego) Tapes. Greg McWhorter even did the original artwork for two BCT Tapes releases; Tropical Viruses I & II (1985).

C.U.R.S.E. Tapes released only a few hand-dubbed tapes during it's brief existence from 1983 to 1988 including:

  • RED IS PRETTY (Chino, CA)/LAS CAFARDS (France) split cassette
  • ICE-9 "Live at Night Moves" live cassette
  • C.U.R.S.E. (the band of the same name) demo tape 1987

There were also many compilations of rare punk put together and given away as well as some live tapes that were made and sold/given away from bigger named punk bands as fan-club editions.

All tapes were sold at local record stores and through mail-order. Ads were placed in the Victor Valley College Rampage, student newspaper.
