Captain is the second studio album by American rapper Khary. It was released on April 6, 2018 by As We Arrive LLC. Guest appearances include Olu Bliss and Cloud Atrium

The album serves as Khary's first conceptual project, and builds off the themes explored in Khary's 2017 EP Tidal Graves.

Background[]

As Khary stated in a few interviews and references in song lyrics, moving to New York proved to have a toll on Khary's sense of direction. “I was just going through a little dark time, man. It was kind of lit, but kind of dark — like, Wow, this is not me. That's why I created the persona of Captain — this false bravado. I was just living a different life.”

Khary stated would get drunk late nights and attempt to woo women to sleep with him, as evident in the track "4 AM Thirst Ballad", in which Khary raps in perspective of a girl he would hook up with. He also would struggle with his career, even contemplating to just quit the scene altogether due to his passion for the art dwindling. He has even stated that he has nearly lost a will to live due to the stressful conditions he was experiencing.

The album is structured as a tragedy tale, with Khary maintaining a strong image which we seen on his 2016 mixtape, being bold and confident, then progressing with Khary becoming more vulnerable and emotional with how he feels.

The cover depicts a black-and-white photo of Khary with a rather melancholic expression to himself, which is supposed to represent his alter-ego, "The Captain", a personification of Khary's darker mindset during this time of his life.
