Genre Description[]
A form of the true rock music, developed in the 1960s, that aimed to emulate the sensations of being on psychotropic drugs, as well as music influenced by the usage of same. Typically, psychedelia has loads of studio effects, longer song structure, and esoteric lyrics. The movement is strongly tied in with 1960s pop, with many pop songs of the late 1960s taking on psychedelic elements. It tended to die out at the end of the 1960s, but re-emerged in the late 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. There's still a strong element of Psychedelia in indie-rock music today, although in some cases it's less people making music influenced by the use of drugs, but people making music influenced by music made influenced by the usage of drugs.
