Genre Description[]

Soul jazz (also known as Funky jazz) is an extensionof Hard Bop, Soul Jazz has more in common with Jazz than Soul. Typically created from locked grooves rather than complex improvisiations, it came from Blues and Gospel influences as applied to Jazz (where straight Soul didn't have Jazz come into it hardly at all). Most Soul Jazz combos were relatively small and often used keys and horns as their focal points. The heyday was in the 1950s to the 1970s, but it is still alive today.

Soul Jazz is also the name of a label, Soul Jazz.
