Cher , born Cherilyn Sarkisian LaPiere ( El Centro , May 20 1946 ) is an American singer and actress of Armenian descent.

Cher was born in El Centro, California . She became known for the rock 'n' rollduo Sonny & Cher , along with her then-husband Sonny Bono . Even back then she made solo recordings. Sonny and Cher divorced in 1975 . Cher later remarried with rock 'n' roll singer Gregg Allman , and divorced in 1979 . Followed later relationships withbassist Gene Simmons of Kiss and guitarist Les Dudek . She has two children, Chaz Bono (born Chastity Bono) and Elijah Blue Allman.
Except singer Cher is also an actress. She has played in the film The Witches of Eastwick , Mermaids , Silkwood , Mask , Suspect , Tea with Mussolini and Moonstruck .For the last film she received in 1988 an Oscar for best actress.
As a singer Cher scored in 1993 still a big hit with a reissue I got you babe , along with the cartoon duo Beavis and Butt-head on MTV . In early 1999 she won the first placewith the song Believe . Cher scored big hits with the songs Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down), Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves, Half Breed, Dark Lady, If I Could Turn Back Time, The Shoop Shoop Song (It's in His Kiss) and Believe.
In 2010 she returned as an actress and singer in the film Burlesque . For this film she made the single You Have not Seen The Last Of Me . On June 18, 2013 the single "Woman's World" came out, Cher sang during the finale of The Voice. Her new album Closer to the Truth came out on September 24, 2013. [1]

- Cher's record holder in the Dutch Top 40. The period between its first Chart position All I really want to do in 1965 and her first solo number one hit Believe in 1998, took the longest, which was in fact 33 years old and 12 weeks.
- She is the first artist in six consecutive decades a number 1 hit in the U.S. charts scores [2]
- She is one of three artists who have stood at number one in America and won an Oscar for acting. The other two are Barbra Streisand and Frank Sinatra .
