Conor Michael Smith (born June 7, 1999; formerly known as Michael Conor) is an American rapper, songwriter, and musician. Smith hails from Shaker Heights, Ohio. He was part of the boy band In Real Life from 2017-2020.
Early life[]
Conor Michael Smith was born in Chicago, Illinois. He started rapping when he was eleven years old, watching Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind" music video on YouTube and found Naz, Eminem, A Tribe Called Quest, and Lil Wayne, which was his introduction to the rap industry.[1][2]
Career[]
In 2017, Smith appeared on the show Boy Band where 30 contestants competed to make the top five in the final band. Upon winning, Smith gained recognition as the rapper of the band, and wrote all raps himself except for "Eyes Closed", which was pre-written for the winners of the show.[3] During this time, he also posted a freestyle for "Lucky You" by Eminem and made a remix from the audio recordings of a few of Twenty One Pilots' songs over his YouTube.
In 2020, he released his debut single "With You in Mind", which addresses white supremacy, privilege, racism, and police brutality in America.[4]
