Crass were an English anarcho-punk band that was formed in 1977 from the Dial House community near Epping, in EssexEngland.

The first album was Feeding of the 5000 that was released in a limited edition of 5000. On this 12 "were eighteen tracks. The opening track Reality Asylum was denied by the record company. Crass removed the number thereupon from the plate and replaced by two minutes of silence under the title The Sound of Free Speech. Crass then started their own label, on which the LP was released with the original number still Reality Asylum.
