By the late 1990s D&B gain more popularity and attention in the rave scene and in the EDM community, as the genre became generally more polished, it began to split into recognisable subgenres like Dubstep, Neurofunk and Hardstep. These sub-genres begun when producers started focusing on darker and more aggressive sounds, which heavily popularized D&B during the 2010s.
