Emperor Norton, a/k/a Joshua A. Norton, is a man who declared himself to be Emperor of the United States. As such, he is the only emperor the US has had. He died in 1880 and was so beloved by the people of San Francisco, there was a parade in his honor. Later, a real cool record label was named in tribute of him.
