1988-1993[Edit][]

En Vogue is the brainchild of producers Denzil Foster and Thomas McElroy/songwriters. They held auditions in 1988 in Oakland, California, for a girl group with the intention to record an album with Atlantic Records. They were looking for a new style that would transcend the other ladies groups, and at the same time a great class and charm would radiate. Cindy Herron, Maxine Jones proved after the auditions, Terry Ellis and Dawn Robinson the perfect occupation. Originally, they wanted to just three girls, but the harmony and the sparks between these four Denzil Foster and Thomas McElroy knew there to convince four to take it. They had all four acting and singing careers during the 1980s.

The original intention was to group the name ' For You ', but they wanted a name that would radiate more grace, class and fashion. It was chosen for the sierlijkere ' En Vogue '. The Group took out his musical inspiration at earlier artists such as The Surpremes, Andrew Sisters, The Emotions and Sister Sledge. Yet there was no front at En Vogue lady pushed forward, as one that was used by previous groups. The girls sang all four as much the lead vocals.

In 1990 the first album ' Born To Sing ', the single ' Hold On ' reached the top of all charts and was appreciated by a large pop and R & B audience. Also the next single ' Lies ' was a big hit, and by the time ' You Don't Have To Worry ' came out got the album Platinum. ' Don't Go ' was released as the fourth single and the four video clips were given a more artistic and classier look than just one was by dance-diva-video clips.

In 1991, En Vogue five times nominated at the Soul Train Music Awards, and ' Hold On ' won as ' best single ' at a band or group. They were also nominated for a Grammy Award for ' Best R & B performance by a duo or group '.

One year after ' Born To Song ' came out ' Remix To Sing ', an album with six songs, five of which are remixes of ' Born To Sing ' and the Christmas Carol ' Silent Night '.Meanwhile appeared and Vogue everywhere. Magazines, movies, tv shows and commercials paid much attention to the foursome.

The tone was set, and after two years it was time for something new. ' Funky Divas ' was the answer to the demand for more. An album that blatantly the hard side of the ladies left a show in its entirety, and radiated even more glitz and glamour than its predecessor. The first single ' My Lovin' (you're Never Gonna Get It) ' was from the very first moment a smash-hit and was nominated for ' best R & B song of the year ' at the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences '. In the next single ' Giving Him Something He Can Feel ", a ballad of Curtis Mayfield, they sounded even bland, but at their third hit ' Free Your Mind ' they were clearly no kittens to tackle without gloves.

The subsequent singles "Give It Up, Turn It Loose" and "Love Don't Love You ' did less well in the charts, but were at the same high level as their predecessors. With ' Funky Divas ' they had embarked on a new direction, which clearly still by no other artist was reached, by R & B, jazz, funk, rap and rock mix.

Each single was accompanied by an original and sensual video clip that each showed a different side of En Vogue. The video clip of ' Free Your Mind ' even earned four trophies on the ' Music Video Producers Association Awards '. ' Funky Divas ' stood at the top of the list for many critics and received in 1993 the ' American Music Award for Soul/R & B album of the year '. The group itself also appeared more on television in programs such as In Living Color and Saturday Night Live. They sang the theme song for the ABC series ' Hello Mr. Cooper ' and were seen in the movie ' Batman Forever '.

In 1993 the ep ' Runaway Love ', a set of six songs dedicated to their fans. On the album were 3 remixes of ' Funky Divas ' to find, the title song ' Runaway Love ' and ' Whatta Man ', a project together with the raptrio Salt 'n' Pepa. The two new songs were hits, and especially ' Whatta Man ' got major global rating and was rewarded with several ' Video Music Awards ' a year later.

1994-1998[Edit][]

After their overwhelming success over the past four years, decided to insert a rest period And Vogue. Cindy married with Glenn Braggs and became pregnant. Maxine also got her first child, while Dawn songs wrote.

Terry developed a perfume ' Southern Exposure ' and brought in 1995 her solo album ' Southern Gal from with the help of her producers Denzil Foster And Thomas McElroy and Vogue-. The group released two of these singles, ' What Did I Do To You? ' and ' Where Ever You Are '. Although the album was certainly not of low quality, it struck not so as one had expected, and the rumors went wild the round that had come the end of En Vogue.

Still, the group still existed and came back in 1996 to record a song for the track from the movie ' Set It Off '. The result of this can be heard in the biggest hit from the complete En Vogue-history. "Don't Let Go (Love) ' yielded not only a successful contribution to the film, but was also a world-famous classic, with Dawns best lead-vocals.

After this unexpected success was the girls decided that it's the right time for a new album. Unfortunately this was not without problems. Sylvia Rhone, head of Vogues And new label ' Elektra ', asked all four members of En Vogue to be able to sign a contract for a two-year project. But Dawn found that they could not, because they already had a contract for her later solo career signed to Interscope. She felt excluded and betrayed. «They gave me an ultimatum: you do it our way, or you bolt it off!» said Dawn in an interview. Cindy lived with it with Dawn, but Maxine and Terry views the matter differently. They claimed that Dawn was planning to anyway from the Group steps, and the two-year contract just like cheap excuse used.

Dawn eventually left the group in 1997 and En Vogue continued as a trio about for the new album, whose vocals of some songs had to be rerecorded again to replace the voice of Dawn. Also the title of the album ' Friendship ' had to be removed, and was replaced by the few original ' EV3 ', which denoted on the third full cd and of course the occupation, that has only three women existed.

The single ' Whatever ' was a minor hit, but could the success of ' Don't Let Go (Love) "do not match. The subsequent single "Too Gone, Too Long" flopped totally unexpected, and En Vogue was forced to cancel their world tour, lack of ticket sales.

The reason for this trap is still hard to figure out. Cindy said in a magazine: «I can't say that I really love our last album. But there are reasons for this. We had to work with a whole bunch of other and different producers, and the album has little cohesion.». Another reason for the whole flop would also might have been the departure of Dawn.

1999-2005[Edit][]

In 1999 ' Best of En Vogue ', a compilation with all their singles of the past nine years, plus the song "Let It Flow" taken from the album ' EV3 '. It was released in Europe to promote the Best Of.

Quite unexpectedly picked up the trio in 2000 back out with their fourth major album ' Masterpiece Theatre '. And this can rightly be called the most remarkable album by En Vogue. In various songs on the album uses classical music pieces, which by driving R & B rhythms be turned into gems of songs. Unfortunately, there is only one single released, 's ' Riddle ', and just got a big hit in Europe.

Shortly after ' Masterpiece Theatre ' off the charts disappeared, En Vogue was dumped by their record company ' Elektra ' and decided to move away from the group to Maxine for more time to spend with her family.Another reason was because they Dawn was missing.

In 2001, ' Very Best Of En Vogue "checkbox. An album that contained roughly the same singles as the ' Best Of En Vogue ' and so basically complete was redundant. Even ' Riddle ' is not found on the album.

En Vogue was already since the departure of Dawn looking for a new fourth member had left the group, but also now that Maxine was still increased. They eventually found a new third member in Amanda Cole. A young singer who had previously with the En Vogue producers the Foster/McElroy had worked. In 2001, she and Terry and Cindy on tour, where she played small concerts in the United States and in Netherlands.

In 2002, an album recorded there again, this time together with Amanda. ' The Gift Of Christmas ' came out at the end of the year, and included many covers of existing Christmas songs. Just like ' Masterpiece Theatre ' was the promotion the album minute, and was especially sold over the internet.

Hereafter also liked Amanda weather for views, and left En Vogue because they wanted to go solo and wanted to write her own songs back. Maxine and Dawn were not going to come back into the group, and after En Vogue in the first half of 2003 as a duo went on, was a new Member in the autumn had announced they found Amanda to replace. The 21-year-old solo artiste Rhona Bennett, who had a hit in 2001 with ' Satisfied ', had everything to perfectly with En Vogue to connect.

She was immediately put to the test, because in late 2003 was En Vogue asked to play on the Belgian production ' Night Of The Proms '. They hapten, and sang in October, november and december concerts in Belgium, Netherlands and Germany. Hits like "Don't Let Go (Love)" and "Free Your Mind" with an orchestra to accompany proved to work well. Because on that time needed some time for her private life, Maxine was invited back to Cindy Proms' on to replace the ' Night Of The concerts. But officially remained the group from Terry-Cindy-Rhona exist.

It started to seem that the glory period of En Vogue for a long time was over, and that they since 1997 only one flop after another brought about. But after seven worse years it seemed that the Sun started to come back by there for our girls. 2004 is the year of ' Soulflower ', their fifth major album. And Yes, they could still have it.

The song "Losin' My Mind ' was sent to the radios as a test-single and was the most requested hit in early 2004 on ' AC Radio Stations ' in the us. The album was released (for reasons only in the United States) and ' Ooh Boy ' was the first official single chosen. A modern R & B number that one of the biggest hits of 2004 in America was.

During the summer of 2004, the girls from En Vogue back on a successful tour of the United States, interspersed with interviews and tv guest appearances. Their time of 1992 proved to be completely returned to glitter, just no longer on a global level. The new album is nowhere to find in Europe, and also the two singles were not released.
