"Galang" is a song recorded by British rapper M.I.A.. It was originally released by Showbiz Records in August 2003. as her debut single, which gained immediate international recognition via radio airplay, fashion shows, club rotations and internet filesharing. The song was re-released on November 1, 2004 by XL Recordings as the second single from her debut album, Arular and was released for the third time as "Galang '05" on October 11, 2005 by the label and in the U.S. by Interscope Records.
M.I.A. solely handled the song's production, as well as co-wrote it with Justine Frischmann, Ross Orton and Steve Mackey. "Galang" first appeared on M.I.A.'s six song demo tape in 2003, her official MySpace account on June 9, 2004 and was later slightly reworked by Orton and Mackey who received production credit for the song.
Musically, "Galang" is a dance-oriented midtempo song, combining some elements of dancehall, electro, jungle and world music. The word "galang" comes from Caribbean slang word for "go along", in the sense of "behave".
