Gladys Catherine Horton (May 30 – January 26, 2011) was an American R&B and pop musician. She was the lead singer and founder of the all female group The Marvelettes. Their song "Please Mr. Postman" was the first No.1 US hit for Motown Records.[1]

Horton was born in Jacksonville, Florida. She was raised in the Detroit area. Different sources say that she was born in 1943, 1944 or 1945.[2] On 26 January 2011 she died in a Sherman Oaks nursing home.[3] Her death was from complications following a stroke.[3]
