Maurice Auguste Chevalier (Paris12 september 1888 – Paris, 1 January 1972) was a French singer and actor.

He has performed in cafes and in the revues at the Folies-Bergère and later in London. He was launched by his beloved Mistinguett. Chevalier was among other things known for his straw hat and Tuxedo. Famous songs by him are La Madelon de la Victoire (1918), Valentine and Quand un Vicomte. Chevalier has written his memoirs.They are published in four parts in 1950 under the title Mes Routes et mes chansons.

He retired officially In september 1968 with acting and singing performances. Nevertheless, he took in 1970 the title song on the Disney movie ' The Aristocats ', said it "out of respect for the work of Walt Disney". Chevalier was active in the first world war.
