See Me Again (also referred to as “Never See Me Again”) is an unreleased song by American rapper Kanye West. It was recorded sometime during 2010.

History[]

This article contains information regarding depression and suicide.

West would be the center of public scrutiny following his inappropriate actions against Taylor Swift at the 2009 VMA Awards, where he, while intoxicated, went on stage, took the microphone from her, and said: "Yo, Taylor, I'm really happy for you, I'mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time!" (West was referring to the music video for "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)".) As the audience booed, West handed the microphone back to Swift, flipped off the crowd, and walked off stage.

Various celebrities, industry figures and even former presidents Barack Obama and Jimmy Carter condemned West for his behavior. West would apologize for the incident on The Jay Leno Show. During some time in 2010, West recorded this track to express his state of mind during the time. The death of his mother, Donda West, splitting with his ex-fiance, Alexis Phifer; as well as the VMA incident, led West down a dark mental road.

The songs lyrics seem to be written as a suicide note, as in later in the 2012 song "Clique" he makes reference of his mental instability during this era. The song is believed to sample the song "Fukari Dake no Ceremony" by Japanese singer Yukiko Okada, who committed suicide via jumping off a 7-story building following her depression over unrequited love with actor Toru Minegishi, with fans comparing her death to a line West would sing on his single "Power" ("This would be a beautiful death, jumping out the window")

Later in 2009 and majority of 2010, West would self-exile himself to Japan, then later to Hawaii, where he would work on his fifth studio album My Beautiful, Dark, Twisted Fantasy. The album would go on to be a critical and commercial success, even winning the award for Best Rap Album at the 2012 Grammys. The song would then go on to remain unreleased, though, like with majority of unreleased Kanye West projects, it would be leaked online.
