Over de muur (English: Over the Wall]] is the third single of Dutch rock band small Orchestra that ended up in the Dutch Top 40 . B-side was behind each door.
Let me but only after Symbion and small Orchestra had a top 10 hit. The song was released on the eve of the great peace demonstration on the Malieveld in the Hagueunder Hollanditis. Harrie Jekkers chose deliberately not to take sides and decided to describe the situation. The song gives the situation again in a divided Europe after the Second World War. In the West and in the East (so-called) freedom prevailed all were suppressed. The song treats the theme on the basis of the situation in the divided city of Berlin.
East Berlin is called as the city of the example of the named utopia that Lenin and Karl Marx had in mind; at the same time, it is found that you're in that so-called Salvation is primarily on you count had to fit with a dissent; sometimes led to dissent in confinement in a psychiatric institution.
West Berlin is called as a bulwark of freedom, example of capitalism. The wealth is imagined by porn, peep show, boozing and gambling. It was as poignant contrast theKreuzberg district which in those years was as very poor. The immigrants from Turkey, but also born Germans died in poverty. Freedom turned out to be there only for the rich people. Demonstrate if, but only if there is no other could.
At the heart of the number are not, however, in birds. These flies over the wall from East to West Berlin as textual bridge between the two parts of a city. They can go without both parts to be shot.
The title of the song, however, is twofold: The birds fly over the wall, but the song is also about that wall. When that wall the picture came in 1989, fell again in the interest and also in the Top 40; then on cd-single.
