Peter Alexander (born Peter Alexander Ferdinand Maximilian Neumayer, Vienna, 30 June 1926 - February 12, 2011) was an Austrian singer and actor, who became popular in the 1950s and 60 with a large number of roles in German musical movies.

Alexander was the son of bank clerk Anton Neumayer († 1947) and his wife Bertha, geb. Wenzlick, daughter of a music dealer from Pilsen. Already during his school years, showed his talent to parody. After he had visited various schools, wanted to his parents that he went to study medicine, but he wanted to be an actor. In 1946, he began a stage training at the Max-Reinhardt-Seminar (the Department for acting and directionof the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna), which he ended in 1948 with good result. Since then he called itself, after deletion of all further names, only Peter Alexander. Early on showed that Alexander was destined for the comic box. Sing and play the piano , he is self-taught at. Since the post-war years, he was an admirer of Frank Sinatra.

Already in 1951 , he took his first gramophone record on Austrophon at record company ("Das machen nur die Beine von Dolores"). In 1953 he moved to the Polydorrecord label, where the successful duo Kurt Feltzand Heinz Gietz wrote many songs for him. For Polydor took Alexander not only hits on, but also many successful compilations from operettas, conducted by Franz Marszalek. Here were singers as Herta Talmar,Renate Holm and Rita Bartos are partners.

He took Ralph Benatzky's operetta "Im weissen Rössl", where he sang the lead role of "Leopold Brandmeyer", with Ingeborg Hallstein beside him in the role of "Josepha Vogelhuber and Rudolf Schock " in the role of "Dr. Otto Siedler". Alexander also appeared in the film version of the operetta in 1960. [1]

He finally went to the end of 1965 record label Ariola.

He spent a total of more than 156 singles and more than 120 original lp's on the market, as well as several dozen in Germany Only ep's. though his records sell from 1956 to the present day on more than 46 million units estimated.

Private Life[Edit][]

In May 1952 he learned the actress Hildegard Haagen (1932-2003), with whom he married in september 1952. His wife gave her stage career and became his manager. They had two children: the painter Susanne Neumayer-Haidinger (1958-2009) and Michael (1963). Since the death of his wife lived Alexander retired in Grinzing in the 19th district of Vienna, Döbling. Peter Alexander had two grandchildren, a grandson (Philip) and a granddaughter (Marlene). He died at 84 years of age.
