Peter Tosh, actually Winston Hubert McIntosh (Grange Hill, Jamaica, 19 October 1944 - Kingston, Jamaica, 11 september 1987), was an influential Jamaican reggae musician. He grew up in Kingston (Jamaica) and started at a young age to sing and play guitar . He was known as a member of Bob Marley & The Wailers, but later went solo.

With the Wailers[Edit][]
In the early ' 60s, he met Bob Marley and Bunny Livingston and he taught Marley how to play the guitar. In 1962 , he was the driving force behind the creation of The Wailing Wailers with Junior Braithwaite and backing singers Beverley Kelso and Cherry Smith. The Wailing Wailers had a huge skahit with their first single, "Simmer Down," and had several more successful singles before Braithwaite, Kelso and Smith left the group in 1965. McIntosh and Bunny were Rastafarians while Bob Marley in the u.s. was and when Marley came back they were all three very active in the Rastafarimovement. Soon after, they changed their name to "The Wailers".
They left the fast-pace and skatook a slower pace. They also stopped political and social messages in their lyrics. The Wailers wrote several songs for the American singer Johnny Nash. Then they started working with producer Lee Perry , and names some of the first reggae hits, such as "Soul Rebel," "Duppy Conqueror" and "Small Axe". After the accession of bassist Aston Barret and his brother, drummer Carlton in 1970, were "The Wailers" Caribbean superstars. They signed a contract with Island and made their debut album Catch a Fire in 1972, the year then followed by Burnin'.
Solo Career[Edit][]
McIntosh left In 1974 "The Wailers". He made recordings under the name Peter Tosh and released his solo debut in 1976 Legalize It out. The title track quickly became an anthem for the marijuana movement and it was in demand on his concerts. Tosh for his militant approach also be a target for the Jamaican police. Equal Rights In 1977 came from. His text "I don't want no peace, I want equal rights and justice!" would be a rallying cry for the oppressed of the world.
Bush Doctor (1978), Mystic Man (1979), and Wanted: Dread or Alive followed. Having been in Mama Africa 1983 was released, went into exile voluntarily Tosh.
Shortly after his last album in 1987 No Nuclear War came out, was killed at his own home Tosh when he refused to give money to three men.
