Quincy Jones (Chicago (Illinois), 14 March 1933) is originally a jazz musician, but he garnered from 1951 the Assembly-line successes as arranger and producer.
After being in the fifties of the twentieth century with greats like Lionel Hampton , Dinah Washingtonand Dizzy Gillespie had played, from the 1960s onwards, he dedicated himself to writing, arranging and producing music. Initially he remained true to the jazz world, but gradually he expanded his work to the film music and pop. Although he has worked with many artists, Michael Jackson remains (due to the production of the millions of album Thriller) is still the most frequently cited. Chump Change the number acts as tune of the Dutch sports programme on the radio, along the line. Also, his song Soul Bossa Nova from the album Big Band Bossa Nova known as soundtrack to the Austin Powers movies.
Jones was in his career no less than 76 times nominated for a Grammy Award , and won 27. In addition, he received an Emmy Award and seven nominations for an Oscar, however, any of which he won.
Jones has been married four times: with Jeri Caldwell (1957 - 1966), model Ulla Andersson (1967 - 1974), and actress Peggy Lipton (1974- 1990). From 1991 to 1997 he lived together with actress Nastassja Kinski, with whom he has a daughter. He has seven children, including two daughters with Lipton: Kidada Nash and actress Rashida Jones. His son with Ulla Andersson, Quincy Jones III, is a famous producer who beginning 80 's stood at the cradle of the Swedish hip hop.
Social activist[Edit][]
Jones is one of the founders of the Institute for Black American Music (IBAM), which raises funds for the creation of a national library of African-American art and music. In the 1970s he started The Quincy Jones Workshops, young people from the inner cities were given training in making music and acting. Together with Bono of U2, he supported actions for the least fortunate.
He founded the Quincy Jones Listen Up Foundation, a non-profit organization that brings young people with education, technology, music and culture. One of the programs that the Organization has set up is an intercultural exchange between underprivileged youths from Los Angeles and South Africa. The organization worked with the Global Forum and Hani Masri and got support from the world bank, UN agencies and major companies. In 2004 because of the We Are the Future project be launched, that opportunities for poor children in children who live conflict areas. This project was with a concert and for an audience of half a million people presented in Rome.
