Rage Against The Machine, or sometimes abbreviated to RATM or shortened to Rage, is an American Rap-Metal band formed in 1991. The group origonally formed when Tom Morello, the guitarist or "DJ", saw Zach De La Rocha freestyle at a club. Later Tom recruited Brad Wilk on drums and Zach got a friend of his, Tom Commerford, to join and play bass. They played there first performance in Orange County in '91 and released a Self-titled demo tape later that year. In 2000, it was announced that Zach left the band, were the other members left and joined Chris Cornell and formed a new band named Audioslave. In 2007, the band reunited and did a reunion tour. As of 2012, they have not released or recorded any new material. There music is political and they have been influenced by many bands, such as Public Enemy, DEVO, and others. As of now, they have released 4 studio albums, 2 live albums, 3 DVD Releases, around 17 singles, and a demo.
