Biography
Rounder was founded in 1970 to release folk and rootsbased music, and has grown into one of the largest independent American record labels, and now has a few sub-labels and releases music from different genres as well. The label was, with Rykodisc one of the first American labels to embrace the compact disc format, and has had many successful artists on their roster. They also used to act as a distributor for many other labels, though they've cut back that aspect of their business to focus on their own releases.
