Biography[]

Stiff was one of the big UK punk labels in the 1970s, and has developed quite a fanbase. They released records by many important and influential artists, and many large sellers, too. However, they ended up splitting, being bought by Island, being spun back off from Island and folding in 1986. Many Stiff releases remain in print, though, but on other various and sundry labels. They also released many various-artists compilations, including one which featured many covers of DEVO's Be Stiff, which was taken by the label as a theme song of sorts.
