Sub Pop is an American independent record label founded in 1986 by Bruce Pavitt and Jonathan Poneman. The label is known in the early 1990s for signing Seattle-based bands such as Nirvana, Soundgarden and Mudhey. They are often credited with helping to popularize grunge music.
