"Svefn-g-englar" is a single and ep by the Icelandic band Sigur Rós. It was in september 1999 as the first single in the United Kingdom -Sigur Rós released.

"Svefn-g-englar" was in late 1998-early 1999 included in Stúdíó Núlist in Iceland. In the United Kingdom was the single on 27 september 1999 through FatCat Recordsissued. [2] the cd version contains two songs from popular international releases, Ágætis byrjun, "Svefn-g-englar" and "Viðrar vel til loftárása". In addition there are two live recordings from a concert at the Icelandic Opera House on 16 June 1999: "nýja lagið" (' new song ') and "Syndir guðs" (from the album Von. On the vinyl version instead of the two live recordings "Veröld ný óg óð", the number also of Von. In the "Svefn-g-englar"-video are a group of dancers with the Down syndrome , which a dance step up. They are dressed in white clothing with Angel Wings on their backs. The group can be seen in a vast landscape, with high cliffs in the background and the video is in slow-motion play. During the dance is one of the members on the ground. The rest of the group goes around her stand, and a new dance performed with arm movements. In the video are also to see separate figures, such as people in a blue and a yellow suit. The Group makes a dance to the person in the yellow suit. The video is supplemented by quotes that appear.
The video was recorded in 2000[5] and released in January 2001. It was directed by Agust Jacobsson, while the Sigur Rós-members came with the concept. [6] the basis of Jón Þór Birgisson the idea came from and Kjartan Sveinsson. For the dance in the video was the Perlan Theatre Group, asked a group of people with Down syndrome and the only dance group of its kind in Iceland. The idea for the quotes came from Dave Cawley by Fat Cat Records. The band had to do an item for the British channel Channel 4, but were looking for an alternative to an interview. Georg Hólm thereupon made extra video material, and the quotes were placed over it. It was first intended to own quotes to use, but due to time constraints there were other quotes used. [7]
