The Imperial March (Darth Vader's Theme), is a soundtrack from Star Wars. It was composed by John Williams for the film Star Wars Episode v: The Empire Strikes Back. The Imperial March was premiered on april 29, 1980, three weeks before the premiere of the film, on the occasion of John Williams first appearance as official conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestrain resident. It is undeniably one of the best known symphonic movie themes, it's a classic example of aleitmotif, a recurring theme related to characters or events in a series.
