The Silent Boy is an Ambient music project by Aureus Nova Solis.  It is part two of "The Immaterial Awakening". They released the project's 9th LP, The Infinite Szilence, on November 6th, 2019.

History[]

Solis started experimenting with music as The Infinite Silence in July 2009 on a friend’s recording equipment, ending up with a demo cover of “You Are My Sunshine” featuring vocals and some piano improvisation. Later that year and early 2010, they had further experimented with Garageband in their art teacher’s classroom.

On August 1st, 2010 they downloaded Mixcraft onto their grandmother’s desktop and borrowed some small vocal recording equipment from the same friend who had helped them begin their music career. In just 18 days, created solely from sudden inspiration, Solis had completed their first album, Mother Songs - lullaby cover songs with their own spin on them. It was released November 3rd, 2010.

In their World Literature class, one assigned project was to choose any character from Shakespeare's works and give a 15-20 minute presentation on them. Aureus had always been captivated by Ophelia from Hamlet, so decided to make a song about her. First, they thought to make something on guitar or keyboard and perform it in front of the class. Instead, they created their longest song to date, “Ophelia”, which features a variety of instruments, sounds, and genres over its length of 20 minutes and 57 seconds. A few weeks later, they made two significantly shorter songs as bookends and released The Gentle Lunatic EP on June 13, 2011.

From June to September they took a short break from music and planned on what to do for the project's sophomore album, meanwhile recording some of their song “Welcome Home”. Around December of that year, Solis had released a Christmas EP, Greetings from Christmas Town, which sounded more ambient and darker than previous works. After that, they quickly made half of their sophomore double-album, Seclusion, finished by February, and released April 14th, 2012.

After this, they released The Silent Boy's third album, The Tragic Life Of The Tree Children, on March 5th, 2013. It was very textural and natural-sounding, bringing to life the very setting of the story they had created. Over the next year, they worked on the tracks of their fourth album, Unfortunate: Before & After, gradually. It was very thick with atmosphere and more ambient than previous releases, while also bringing back acoustic drums. It was released May 3rd, 2014 along with a free companion EP of cover songs, called Unfortunate: The Syrens' Songs.

A little over a year later, they released serenity, a 4-song EP that stands as the musical rendition of the time when they first met their ex. It has an acoustic and reverb-tinged atmosphere. Later that December, they released their 5th LP FRAGMENTS and its companions UNREMEMBERED and FRAGMENTS (CONTINUOUS INSTRUMENTAL MIX), which catalogues the whole of their relationship with their first ex, as well as the aftermath of the breakup. It developed a more wintery and electronic sound while still being very atmospheric. May 2016 saw the release of Sleeper's Descent, an EP that follows the main character into a wormhole, going from moon to moon until he reaches Luna. Musically, it kept with the electronic sounds found in FRAGMENTS, but left out percussion. Since Seclusion, the project has turned into a more imaginative version of Solis's life experiences.

Following Sleeper's Descent, they went back to basics with piano and acoustic guitar as the focal point in Nocturnity and its companions Reflected and Nocturnitous (Nocturnity Instrumentals), which deals with Aureus's depression and how it affected the relationship with their mother.

In 2017, they took a turn into ambient songs centered around electric piano in Crepus, following their main character into the Gloaming Realm. The psychedelic sounds near the end of the EP inspired their next album, Diurnia and its companion Radiated, following the main character to the surface of the Sun and deals with the relationship of Solis and their abusive father.

They released Post- and its companion Re-Integrated in 2018, leaning into chiptune and 8-bit, FM synthesizers, and neoclassical music in three parts, respectively over its 18 tracks. The album discusses technology and the modern world/society, becoming disillusioned, nature retaking the setting's city, and humanity reconnecting with it.

2019 saw the release of The Infinite Szilence, the eeriest, darkest, and longest single album from Solis to date. This was the first release as The Silent Boy since 2014 they didn't accompany an album with a cover song EP companion. The album follows the main character as he inhabits the body of a man who witnessed the destruction and twisting of an entire universe by the hands of "The Wicked Ones".

Solis is currently working on the next album for The Silent Boy.

They also create music under the monikers Stars & Constellations, Kaleidanoyse, and AQVARIVS.
