Song Notes: There Was A Pregnant Pause Before He Said "OK": The Best Of Belle & Sebastian: This is one of my favorite examples of how funny Belle & Sebastian can be—it's something a lot of people don't seem to pick up on, because of the way they tend to sing everything in a deadpan manner. But, really, listen to the lyrics of this one—it's hilarious! It's just this long farce, and all sorts of amusing things happen. I love the line "I gave myself to God/There was a pregnant pause/Before he said "OK". Which is where the title of the best-of comes from, since, well, I love that bit.
