Thin Lizzy is an Irish rock band. The core of the band formed singer and bassist Phil Lynott (1949-1986) and drummer Brian Downey.
The composition of the band changed regularly over the years. In addition to frontman Phil Lynott singer/bassist most notable members were Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham. Gary Moore played guitar on some songs, but his role in the band was not very large. Characteristic of the Group was the establishment in which two lead guitarists were central. This Setup was later often copied by bands like Iron Maiden. Phil Lynott was known as an extravagant but brilliant singer, bassist, composer and poet.
One of the first songs the band Whiskey in the jarwas released, a hard rock version of a traditionalIrish. Later this number in an even tougher version released byMetallica . The big breakthrough, however, came with the song by Thin Lizzy The boys are back in town (1976). In 1983 held the group to exist. Lynott initially founded another band (Grand Slam) on, but that never really came off the ground. Solo has had some successes which the Lynott Old Town best known. This number is Later covered by The Corrs. "Parisienne Walkways" along with Gary Moore was a Classic. Less well known is "Kings ' Call" with Mark Knopfler on guitar.
On 1st Day 1985, Lynott recorded after a Christmas party, as a matter of urgency, in a clinic in Salisbury, because of liver and kidney failure. He eventually died on 4 January 1986 of heart failure and pneumonia. The years of use of drugs, in particular heroin had his body taken down.
Still find there every year during the anniversary of the death of Philip Lynott a tribute-happening place in Dublin, Ireland, the Vibe for Philo, wherein the mother of Lynott (Philomena) always plays a prominent role and many cover bands present. Also Dutch Lizzy-cover bands have played there often.
On 19 August 2005, the day before Philip Lynott 56 years would have become, was on Grafton Street in Dublin unveiled a life-size statue of him. The next day was given a tribute concert in honor of Philip with as Captain Gary Moore, aided by the main former members of Thin Lizzy: Brian Downey, Scott Gorham, Brian Robertson and Eric Bell.
Scott Gorham and John Sykes have some years ago revived the name Thin Lizzy. They then toured under that name with Michael Lee on drums and Marco Mendoza on bass. John Sykes took over the lead vocals and guitar, and Scott Gorham completed the band with his distinctive guitar playing. In 2007, Michael Lee and Tommy Aldridge has said goodbye to his place.
Later, John Sykes back rows with its own musicians under the name John Sykes. The Thin Lizzy-tour of 2009 this fall.
A year later a new line up formed Scott Gorham of Thin Lizzy, starting from January 2011 went back rows. The first 13 concert dates in the United Kingdom were planned, with a performance at the Memorial in Dublin on 4 January, the 25th anniversary of the death of Philip Lynott. In addition to the original band members Scott Gorham, Brian Downey drummer and keyboard player Darren Wharton completed former Whitesnake bassist Marco Mendoza, Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell and The Almighty-singer Ricky Warwick the lineup.
