Band Biography[]

Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart were two of the foremost songwriters of the 1960s. They had loads of hits for other people, including "Come A Little Bit Closer" by Jay & The Americans. They were possibly most known for their work with The Monkees, including writing the songs "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone" and "Last Train To Clarksville". There was a bit of contention, though as Tommy Boyce felt that they should sing their own songs instead of giving them to other people. As The Monkees were wanting to write and perform their own music (Boyce & Hart had performed and produced the first Monkees album), the time was right, and the duo signed with A&M. They put out three records and had a big hit with "I Wonder What She's Doing Tonite" and then as their star was rising, tensions caused the group to disband. They later got together with Davy Jones and Micky Dolenz for a one-off LP and tour, and Bobby Hart had some solo records after that. In 1994, Tommy Boyce killed himself, however Bobby Hart is still in the industry. They also wrote the theme to the popular soap opera Days Of Our Lives.
