Tony Rice (born June 8, 1951) is an American bluegrass musician and guitarist. He is perhaps the most influential living acoustic guitar player in bluegrass, progressive bluegrass, newgrass and flattop acoustic jazz. In addition to his long and successful career as a solo artist, Rice has also collaborated with the likes of Jerry Garcia, David Grisman (with whom he recorded the first Tone Poems album), Ricky Skaggs and Norman Blake, among others. He was also the frontman of his own band, The Tony Rice Unit, for a number of years.

As of 2013, Rice is mostly retired from performing due to health issues. He has expressed his desire to make a comeback to music full-time, but as of 2018, other than an occasional performance, this has yet to happen due to ongoing health issues.
