Virgin Records is a British record label owned by Universal Music Group. It was founded in 1972 as an independent record label by Richard Branson, Simon Draper, Nik Powell and Tom Newman. The label gained fame through signing with English punk rock band Sex Pistols, until it was sold to EMI in 1992.
