Zedned is an experimental music project founded in 2019 by Jake Muscles and his duo partner Molly Muscles. Initially created as a parody project, the duo explored a variety of musical styles, blending pop, house, R&B, and comedy with a humorous and satirical twist. Their debut single, Fuck It, I Love You, released in 2021 on SoundCloud, marked their entry into the music scene and quickly garnered attention for its quirky style. In 2022, they released their debut album, Moist Muff, which, despite a lack of promotional singles, showcased their unique sound but received mixed reactions. The album's failure to gain widespread success didn't deter them, and they continued experimenting with their music. Zedned's evolution from a quirky indie project to a charting artist demonstrates their ability to continuously reinvent themselves, pushing boundaries and connecting with an ever-growing fanbase.

Career

2019-2021: Creation of Zedned

In 2019, Jake Muscles, alongside his duo partner Molly, began to explore the world of music creation, focusing on writing and composing songs. At the outset, Zedned was conceived as a lighthearted, parody-driven project, with the duo experimenting with a variety of music styles and crafting lyrics that blended humor with their musical compositions. Their approach was unorthodox, as they sought to infuse each track with a sense of fun and satire, positioning themselves as an irreverent and experimental force within the music world. This early experimentation laid the groundwork for their eventual emergence into the music scene. By 2021, Zedned had officially debuted on SoundCloud, releasing their first single, Fuck It, I Love You, which marked their formal entry into the public musical consciousness. What began as an indie project quickly gained traction, as the duo's distinctively quirky style and humor resonated with listeners. Their unique combination of playful irreverence and catchy melodies drew attention, propelling them forward in their musical journey and establishing them as an unconventional yet intriguing presence in the music scene.

2022-2023: Musical journey and the solo career

Zedned's career saw rapid growth starting in 2022, with the release of their official debut single 'Sex/Monopoly' on April 8, 2022, which became popular, especially on TikTok. The track, part of their fourth album Street Days, showcased their unique blend of pop, house, R&B, and comedy, and gained attention thanks to Jake’s viral content. They followed up with their debut album Moist Muff on May 1, 2022. However, the album was poorly received due to the lack of promotional singles, as most of the tracks were released simultaneously. Despite this setback, Zedned released a remarkable eleven albums and one extended play that year, making them the youngest artists to accomplish such a feat. Unfortunately, due to release issues, most of these albums were removed from streaming platforms, with only Sounds Gay I'm In, This Is The Diary Of Zedned and X (Deluxe) remaining accessible.

In 2023, Jake took full control of Zedned, with Molly stepping back from the project. However, Jake's music was met with controversy due to his explicit lyrics, leading to a hiatus. During this period, Jake also experienced his first public breakup and released a breakup album influenced by artists like Cigarettes After Sex, Olivia Rodrigo, and The 1975. While the album was introspective, it was criticized for being excessively self-loathing. Jake struggled with depression and self-harm, and his social media accounts reflected his breakdowns. After a period of recovery, Jake returned to music with the single Smile :), marking the release of Zedned Back From The Dead, an indie-pop album exploring themes of self-loathing, healing, and love, along with Jake’s journey to embrace his sexuality. Jake released seven albums in the year, a little less than last year but however, like many previous albums, four these new releases were also taken down from streaming platforms due to release complications.

2024-present: Experimental projects and commercial success

In 2024, Jake's music began to evolve, incorporating more synth-pop and dance-pop influences, but still retaining his signature comedic style. He achieved his first commercial success with a remix of Chip Shop by Kkbutterfly27xx. The summer of 2024 brought Jake’s release of blending electronic and hyper-pop sounds, explored themes of infatuation, heartbreak, and self-loathing. Both lead singles were well-received, further boosting Jake's popularity. In September, Jake surprised fans with his most critically acclaimed album Girl, I Don’t Fucking Know, an experimental album featuring a mix of comedic and heartfelt lyrics. This album produced his first-ever number one single, 'I'm In Miami Bitch!' and also reached number three on the UK iTunes Comedy chart, marking his first commercial success in the mainstream music scene. Due to the mainstream success of the album, Jake released a deluxe edition titled Girl, I Still Don't Fucking Know which included four extra tracks including the single Every Time I Get High, which became one of Jake's top five most streamed songs.

In October 2024, anticipation for Jake's twenty-fifth album, You Think That I Give A Shit?, grew immensely when two tracks from the album were leaked ahead of its planned release in December. The leak didn’t just involve the songs themselves but also the album's artwork and full tracklist, which significantly heightened fan excitement and set high expectations for what was to come. Rather than letting the leak dampen the buzz, Jake decided to capitalize on it by releasing two remixes of songs by Kkbutterfly27xx 'Go 4 Drives' and 'Achoo!' — as a strategic move to further engage his audience.

On December 20, 2024, Jake released You Think That I Give A Shit?, marking the milestone of his twenty-fifth album. The album itself consisted of tracks that had been previously scrapped from earlier releases that year, with these songs failing to make the final cut for other projects. As a result, the collection felt less cohesive and lacked the spark that had fueled Jake’s prior successes, contributing to the widespread disappointment from both critics and fans alike.

Looking ahead to the future, however, there is a sense of hope for Jake’s career. Leaks have surfaced suggesting that Jake is preparing for a major comeback with a new album, Get Drunk First And Then High, slated for release on February 7, 2025. This new project is being positioned as Jake’s response to the underwhelming reception of You Think That I Give A Shit?, with rumors swirling that the album will feature a thematic style similar to his breakthrough success Girl, I Don’t Fucking Know. Drawing inspiration from his own personal growth and the experiences that have shaped him, Get Drunk First And Then High is expected to explore themes of self-discovery and emotional transformation, potentially revitalising Jake’s career and returning him to the commercial success he had previously enjoyed. Fans and critics alike are eagerly awaiting this next chapter, hopeful that Jake will reclaim the momentum he once had and deliver an album that lives up to the excitement generated by his earlier work.
